Between Design and Architecture, 15 hec

(Course code: FKADAR)

Level

Second cycle

Description

Between Design and Architecture is a post degree course treating buildings, and more specifically dwellings, as assemblages of objects, components and consumer goods. In response to current social, economic and environmental change the course seeks to understand and elaborate on the role of design within domesticity and the construction of living environments. It suggests an open approach to architecture as a broad and diverse field of design in which the foundational relationship between producer and user is rethought, remodeled and prototyped while the consequences to the broader society is mapped.

The course is structured around two assignments. One being an individual design project and the other a collaborative making-led research. Both assignments are running through the full length of the course. The teaching consists of a variety of individual tutoring, thematised seminar weeks, lectures, workshops and guest speakers. Scheduled course meetings will occur approximately once every other week, however sometimes for more than two consecutive days at a time.
